Card Review #26

Card Number/Card Name: Rafflesia (U-C82 Red)
Cost: 2-6-2
Terrain: S
Stats: 5/5/5

Effect: Prevent(5) Area Weapon(3) Special Shield(3)
[(Auto A): This card cannot be move by opponent's effects outside of abolish]
(Damage Calculation Step): <<[2.6](0)>>Abolish one of your "Bug" in the Battle Area. If so, destroy an opponent's card without set card set onto it with total cost amount of 8 or less.

Why not make it a double review?

Yes, another of those "cover Unit". This time, it's the ultimate weapon of Crossbone (in Gundam F91), the tentacle rods (blades), the beams, or, in other word, "dodge" all those beams (like Freedom...XD)? The blades would destroy you. This is shown in the 5/5/5 stats anyway.

Let's look at the stats/cost now for that matter. This Rafflesia have the same cost/stats as the "old" Rafflesia (U-C20), of course...new text.

The difference?
Old - Have "Raid", use the "old Bug" (U-C21) to weaken (sometimes destroy) opponent's things by dumping/reviving (have way to get the Bugs out)
New - Have "Special Shield", use Bugs to destroy opponent thing, and Bug act as a "support" over "need"

Now let's look at the effects. The first effect is the "Immobile Char" effect: cannot be bounce, roll, destroy (only can be STRAIGHTLY abolish). Great? Well...just prevention.

The second effect, as said above, is sacrificing "Bug" to destroy opponent's cards. Of course, 8 or less Total Cost (DNP + TNP + Resource) seems very low. But does it mean one need to necessary always straightly destroy opponent's Units...not really. In terms of destruction ability, this card is about the same level as the "old" Rafflesia (which at most of the time only can make opponent's Unit -3/-3/-3). But the big difference? This card can destroy opponent's characters and operations. Unit is just not everything, and this card can flat out destroy most of the Units in the game (those high cost powerful ones? Just freaking Counter them!)

At last, Carozzo Ronah "the crazy Iron Mask" (CH-C39) and "Rafflesia Project" (O-C7) help out this card's flaw: the inability to bring back the Bugs. As long as they stays on the field, one Bug turns into two, two to four...each turn some more Bugs comes into play...ouch.

RATING: 8.8/10 - This Unit, if anything, is not just those Rares that is only great in the binder because of its art. This card can help what Red is the weakest in: dealing with cards on the field. Of course, the minus of this card is that it depend on other cards a lot: especially in Carozzo Ronah and Rafflesia Project. However, ones they're on the field and this card can stay on the field (not hard...unless it's destroy in battle), opponent's cards are destroy one...by...one.
