After the new set is released, of course it's time to look at some new cards from the new set.
Since I had not finished looking at the whole set, I would not type my first "Set overview article" as of yet...but for those who wants to look at the upcoming reviews, do so here (registration required)
So first Units is one of the top rated card in the set (and to balance out the inbalance of color in the card reviews): V2 Gundam of...V Gundam.
At first we would look at the stats, being those "powerful second-era Machine in a story", being 5 cost is very normal (but all previous V2s cost 5). 4/2/4 is the normal stats for V2. It's kind of low compare to those White fatties (where 5 cost = at least 5 attack), but kind of normal compare to all the other colors.
This card, like the Set 11 version of V2, have 2 multiple effects. But let's first look at the keyword effects.
Like all the other "better" Units, this card have Prevent (but only 5...but it's enough to stop most Counters). Like all the V Gundam series, it have Special Shield(1), which is close to no use (especially in an environment where most burn cards does not activate in Battle Phase). At last, in replacement of "Change" of last V2, this card have Quick instead.
So, let's first look at the 2 Multiple effects before I would compare this with the "old" V2 Gundam.
The first effect of this card gives every Units you have HM. Well, of course making all your things unblockable (well...against most decks) is good. Although one thing is a LOT of Blue Units already have HM itself, but this effect can lifts the limitation on what you have sortie for attack and what cannot, and also have the ability to block opponent's HM Units.
The second effect of this card is simliar to the effect of "Wings of Light". Although Wings of Light would only works on non-Battling opponent's Units vs. this effect works only on detachment battling with this card, and while Wing deals to Nation, this effect deals back the damages to opponent's detachment. So how useful is this effect? Well, since most Units does not have a defense higher than its combat (attack + shoot), those few damages deal back (as like Battle Damages, which cannot be prevent most of the time) can easily destroy few more opponent's Units.
OK, now it's the comparison b/t the Set 11 and this V2 Gundam. The old have the advantage of better utilize the [Core Fighter] (U-192) with its Change and multiple effect, this card have Quick (only 1 turn slower). The 2 Multi effects of the old one can either destroy an opponent's Op (good), or stop all damages (also good), this card is more aggresive version: HM or deal few more damages. The minus is of course the inability to utilize [Cor e Fighter] fully (since it only works with the Multiple effect now). Which is better? Well...both are goods, and 1/2 of this and 2/1 of the other is a good combination.
RATING: 8.6/10 - The HM effects and the extra damages make this card god in a more aggressive build of a Blue Medium. Having Quick creates the ability for a Blue Medium player to drop 2 good 5 cost Units during one turn (of course, combining with [Catapult]). The drawback? Well, the multiple effect is "kind of" harder to use compare to the old V2, and as like the other V2, the stats is kind of horrifying for a 5 drop. However, with the numerious decks using MF, sometimes the second effect would purely trade this Unit easily with opponent Unit.
