Welcome back to the latest card review. This time, we would finally go back to the forever-popular Blue and look at one of the largest size Unit ever in the anime (the whole Dendrobium Unit with the "Staman" and "Orchis").
First, let's look at it's stats. As like all the older versions of this card, it cost 7, and have the stats of 5/4/7, which is kind of low even with Blue Units. However, this card have the "Change" effect, which itself can be bring out during opponent's 4th turn at the fastest (that is, talking about without any other boosts, but just normal G-drops)
Let's look at the keyword effects of this card first. This card, like all the "big-name Gundams", are "legendary". Also, since the Dendrobium Unit would have so much thruster, it make perfect sense that this card also have "High Mobility". At last, the normal Special Shield effect that stops a lot of damages and the Change effect.
As one can notice in the change effect, the effect makes this card only possible to change with "Gundam Prototype GP03 Staman" (ガンダム試作3号機ステイメン). In it make sense, Dendrobium only works with the GP03 Gundam anyway...
Let's now look at the continuous "Auto" effect makes this card. The first part impossible to be transform again into just say, Perfect Gundam. That part does not matter much, however, since not much people would choose to Change up a big Unit like this unless it's for evasion. But the second part is important: when you have 4 or more cards in hand, this card cannot be target of opponent's Command. What this mean? Well, one thing is if you have 4 or more cards in hand, this card is "almost invincible" (unless destroy by Operation or Unit effect...since there's not much chance this thing can be destroy in battle by other Units), but the second thing is, you must keep your hand or include a bunch of draws.
But now let's look at the second effect, basically, when this card is in Battle Area, you can discard a card from hand to deal some damage to opponent's Units. Well, one problem? Well, this effect "conflict" with the continuous effect of this card, which could make this fat Units very vulnerable to be destroy by Command. But to the positive side, one is this effect can even deals damage to opponent's Units in their own Disposition Area, and second is it can deal to up to 3 Units at one time, which make the effect being "potential mass destruction".
Some obvious problem with this card? Well, one is if you cannot draw this since this card pretty much need a deck based around it, and two is the heavy dependence on hand size.
So to solve 1, it's not hard. The Staman from Set 9 (U-157 Blue) let's you use Multiple effect to search this. This effect makes you the ability to put more other cards (i.e. draws).
To solve 2, there're two ways. One obvious way is to use the drawers. Although Blue lack draws (not that they don't have it...), Red and Brown are two very good card-drawers. The second way is combo this with "Moonlight Butterfly". This make opponent double-devastated with no-G and no-Unit.
At last, since this card can only sortie to Space, one person must make sure they have enough defense to Earth. Although this cannon can shoot all the way to Earth Area...(although not Ring...but outside of Shining Gundam, they're not hard to deal with...and this card be use for defense anyway)
RATING: 8.5/10 - This card is a potential disaster for opponent. It's not hard either to play this, just wait long enough for 4th turn to change this out (after quicking the Staman) and one only need to sit and wait for opponent dying. Slap one "invincible character" of Blue onto this card, and opponent would die earlier. Problem? Well, the only thing is it's not hard to deal with this card if you don't have enough hand (especially against Black), but otherwise...hehehe
