Spikes & Baron Duel Monster Comet - Card Review #277

Card Name: Hane Kuriboh LV9 (YG03-JP001)
Effect: When a chain happens, you can special summon this card from your hand. When this card is face-up on your field, remove all Magic cards activated by both players from the game instead of going to Graveyard. This card's attack and defense strength is equal to number of Magic card in opponent's Graveyard x500. Only 1 [Hane Kuriboh LV9] can be face-up on your field at once.

Hane Kuriboh LV9

Comment: It's time for me to write a new card review.

This time, I would step aside from TDGS a little bit and review a whole new promo. I just do not want to see 5 Synchros reviewed in a row (since they are pretty much the only cards in the whole set that is worth me to even think of how to write the review).

Anyway, let's start the very last review of a Judai's card (should be...)

Art:
Although the art is the same as manga...the colored version just look MUCH better. Well, of course, in an obvious way, the art of the card is just Hane Kuriboh (the original one) combine with Breaker's famous hat and armor. I mean, that there would have me give a perfect score.

RATING: 10/10

Stats/Requirement:
This card is a level 9 monster with the stats depending on number of Magic cards in opponent's Graveyard. However, this card is only a quasi-high level monster, as it does have an effect that let you alternatively special summon this card from hand. The requirement? Basically, it's not really hard, as long as a Chain happened, you can special summon this card from hand.

Of course, as like any Chain related card, it does take a little bit of patience to purposefully set up a Chain to special summon this. However, it's just not hard to get into Chain 2, it happens all the time...

Anyway, this card's stats depends on the number of Magic cards in opponent's Graveyard. As usual, depending on opponent just does not help...but more on this later.

RATING: 7.4/10

Effect:
Well, although this card have 4 parts in the effect text, I had already discuss 2 of them above. So now let's look at the 2 continuous effects of this card. Also, just to say, they have no relation at ALL with Hane Kuriboh or the LV10 version.

The first continuous effect of this card is that when it's on the field, all Magic cards would RFG instead of going into Graveyard. There are 2 obvious way for this effect to put into use. The first is the synergy of this effect with [D.D. Borderline] (since no Magic would go into Graveyard), and the second is laughing straight at Magical Explosion. Well, otherwise, not much use for now as [Magician of Faith] is banned (OK...there is DMoC but...)

However, the more obvious thing about the above effect is how it just CRUSH with the effect where the stats of this card is determined. Basically, this effect made this card's stats becomes stale after the special summon, period. Unless there is a way to put Magic cards from opponent's RFG zone back into Graveyard (which there is none...there are cards that can put monster(s) back, not Magic/Trap). Of course, it all depends on when this card is special summon. If it is late game, having more or not just does not matter as opponent probably have at least 5 Magics in Graveyard.

Let's talk about the second effect a little bit. The second effect is that this card is a "Legend" on your field. Why they need to do this? I don't really know, there is just no flavor, no mechanic problem with more than one of this on the field at once...

RATING: 5.7/10

OVERALL - 7.1/10 - On one side, this card can be a easy to special summon beatstick in late game, on the other side, the stats depending on opponent and this having just almost to no use in early game. Of course, this card is just REALLY good against Magical Explosion deck, but really, if you cannot draw this card early, it would have no use against that deck either (although the deck usually do not win at 1st turn, 2nd (of their own) to 3rd turn kill just happens, and this card would come too late to stop that). In the end, I would say this card is good "deck bottom" (cards you put at the bottom of your clear sleeve) or binder just for its look, but have not much use otherwise as it's cannot use all the Hane Kuriboh support either.
