Article 37: Dark World cannot be create from Creator! *NOTES: I find out where my wording is wrong. Sorry for any confusion causes by my mis-wording* I can't help myself laughing out when typing this article...no for real. Guess why I use this article title? Well, after the release of English TCG, of course, the hype of "Dark Realm monster" (e. Dark World monsters) continue like it did on the Japanese side. However, Kotaro Fuma, one of the article writer on this site, point out an interesting point to me... PEOPLE ARE PUTTING IN [The Creator] in a Dark World deck! OK, experts, you can stop reading here if you get what's wrong with it. If you don't...you MUST read on! So, for those who don't get it, here's the problems: OK, before getting into the Creator issue, let's talk about the confusing issue of "cost portion" of an effect text and the "effect portion". This issue can be really helpful to you as a player during the rest of your Yu-Gi-Oh gaming career. Cost Portion - There're two types of cost: activation and upkeep (maintenance). This portion is identify when the beginning of the card text, after activation requirement (like "can only be play in Battle Phase"), reads something like "Pay XXX lifepoints", "Discard/Sacrifice a card on your field/hand", "remove a card from [a place]". If there would be text follow those, then those portions would be the "cost" of a card. Maintainence cost, like activation cost, reads something like "During (most likely Standby Phase), ...(text from the activation cost)". It is not a continuous effect, it's continuous cost, thus, cannot be negate. The confusing part is, when the card EFFECT is negate, do the cost stills needs to be pay? The answer is yes, since the cost of a card must be pay when the card is ACTIVATE, and the effect portion would comes in AFTER the card is successfully activated. If the activation is not-successful, the cost stills needs to be paid (i.e. You must pay 800 lifepoints to activate [Early Burial] (e. Premature Burial), but if it would be then negate by cards like [Declaration of God] (e. Solemn Judgment), the effect of "special summon a monster from your Graveyard......." does not activate. For upkeep cost, if the card effect is negate (by cards like [Skill Drain] or [Imperial Order]), the upkeep still needs to be paid because cost is NOT part of a card effect (it's a part of card EFFECT TEXT, not EFFECT) What does this have to do with Dark Realm/Dark World monsters? Because, since the Dark Realm/Dark World monster have text read " If this card is discarded from the hand to the Graveyard by a card effect, ......" (YES, I use Upperdeck's text for reason!) Read it again... "...by a CARD EFFECT..." Since I explain that cost is NOT effect, that means that you cannot discard the Dark World monsters with cards like [Magic Jammer]. The only exception to this type of "discarding" is [Card Destruction], since "both players discard hands" is part of the effect of the card (I told you it's confusing!) In addition, this is not all to the triggered requirement to those monsters. Since the text clearly read "DISCARDED" by card effect, if a card effect with effect like "SEND card from your hand to Graveyard", it don't work either. This is where [The Creator] does not work with the Dark World monsters. Since Creator's effect reads "Send a card from your hand to Graveyard", it don't "discard", that's why it's NOT cost. However, since the Dark World monsters clearly state that you have to discard CARDS... In conclusion, here's the list of cards that COULD triggered the Dark Realm monsters effect (copied from JERP, for those who cares...) Monsters: Magic: Traps: -Baron, 11/5/05
