Article 10: Cheap and Effective #2, Building a Trample deck

Well, yet another one of my "Cheap and Effective" series articles. I admit I'm too lazy to write this type of article every week...oh well...

This time, as by ideas by BladeIII (Ahmad), we would look at a different idea of deck, "Trample" deck.

So, you may ask, what is "Trample"? Actually, there's not a term or anything in Yu-Gi-Oh that have the word "Trample" in it. The word "Trample" comes from an old old (very old, actually, 1993) mechanic of Magic:the Gathering. In M:tG, when you declare attack with your creatures, when your opponent declare to "block" the attack, first you deal damage to opponent's creature by your attack point dealing "damage" to opponent's creature toughness, which creature have "Trample" would do the exceed damages (after the opponent's creature toughness become 0, and it die) to the opposite player. (Just for example, like I declare [Darksteel Colossus] (11/11) to attack, and your opponent declare [Myr Enforcer] (4/4) to block, after dealing 4 damages to [Myr], there're still 7 damages left, and that 7 would attack opponent's life).

So, how it would related to Yu-Gi-Oh?? In many monsters in the game, there're line of effect like:
"When this card battles an opponent's monster in defense mode, and this card attack is higher than that card's defense, do damage to your opponent equal to the difference"

Although the battle damage system between Yu-Gi-Oh and M:tG is completely different (Yu-Gi-Oh compare attack if opponent's monster is in attack mode, and defense if in defense mode, while no matter what in M:tG, it calculate through toughness), but, since really, the "attack strength" of a Yu-Gi-Oh monster is like the "attack" of M:tG's creatures, and the "defense strength" is like "toughness", and when those kind of effect comes out, some M:tG player would related that effect being "Trample".

So, you may ask, what's the point of building a Trample deck, then?
My answer: In big, a Trample deck is not much difference to a Beatdown (Aggro) deck, but, when you could deal more damage, and remember, one way to win in the game is to lower opponent's lifepoints to 0, so, it make opponent think more of putting in attack or defense (since both does damages anyway).

Now, after a bunch of junk word...let us look at ALL of the "Trample" monsters in the game:
High Tribute:
Dark Tricetops (307)
Sky Knight - Perseus (MA/DL5)
Hellish General - Mephisto (305)

Low Tribute:
Spear Dragon (SC/DL5)
Igzarion Universe (G6/SJ2)
Enraged Minotauros (307)
Mad Sword Beast (TB, DL3, BE1)
Gravekeeper Spearman (301)
Reversed Gilpanda (304)

I would not go into details of each card, you can check the translation yourself. Now, how to build it??

Now...that's not much...right, but that's enough monster for this article.

Tribute: 3
Dark Tricetops x2
Android - Psycho Shocker (if you have money...replace this with [Sky Knight - Perseus] if you want)

WHY? It's just normal to put a 2400 Trampler, and another 2400 monster. Why Perseus then? Well, since that card is Super Rare, so, but if you can find one, adding it in is not a problem.

Non-Tribute: 14
Critter
Witch
Igzarion Universe x2
Enraged Minotauros x3
Berserk Gorilla x3
Magical Warrior - Breaker (expensive, though, use Spear Dragon over it...)
Tribe Infection Virus
Reverse Gilpanda x2

Pretty much...all Trampling monster, except with the boost by Enraged, Gorilla gain trample too.

Magic: 18
Black Hole
Jar of Greed
Tempest
Angel's Gift
Cyclone x3
Mirage of Nightmare
Book of Moon x2
Enemy Controller x2
Scapegoat
Theft
Raise Dead
Early Burial
Emissary of Obliteration x2

Most of the cards are "Staple" in a deck. Since Book of Moon and Enemy Controller could change opponent's monsters to defense, so, I would use them too.

Trap: 5
Destruction Ring
Holy Barrier - Mirror Force
Cry of Living Dead
Mischivous Trio x2

Self explainatory also, Trio puts more defense monster on opponent's field, and that's all.

Yet another finish on my article...
